Love was spread through Brookyn at the second annual CurlFest on Saturday August 29th at Prospect Park. This year trumped last year’s CurlFest with double the attendance of abundant natural haired women and men. From 1pm-6pm, the Nethermead section of the park was jampacked with fluffy fro’s, curls and laughter. Vendors lined both sides of the designated space including: KingsRuleTogether, Carol’s Daughter, Dark n Lovely, Hausofswag, Eden BodyWorks and many more.

No matter your interest, the day was filled with much to do! Empowering picnic chats discussing topics of love, hair, health, healing, raising children and fitness were led by social media personalities: Chrstina Brown, Naptural85, Anowa, Jenell B Stewart, Anu Prestonia, Kimberly V, Alaska Gedeon and Lois Reid-Hines. If that wasn’t enough to keep you satisfied, picture posing, dancing, video interviews, food trucks, rum punch (provided by Tropic Isle), samples, games, hair consultations, massages and music courtesy of DJ Tiff McFierce, all graced the event. Blankets, coolers and relaxation consumed the grassy space.

Invented by a group of young women known as CurlyGirlCollective, Curlfest is a celebration of hair and beauty in its purest forms. As always, self-love is a motivating factor in breaking down societal stereotypes of what beauty actually is and looks like.  Events such as this, allow a variety of beautiful beings to come together to embrace, empower, network, laugh and praise their natural existence.

Dreaded beauty! 15 years of growth!

If you missed this year’s Curlfest, you should be disappointed, but based on the turnout this year, CurlyGirlCollective will have many more fests in the years to come.  Follow @CurlyGirlCollective on Instagram to stay in the loop!
